Happy Thursday everyone! I hail from East Tennessee, land of beautiful mountains and nauseating orange. But today, I’m slightly proud of that of that offensive shade of orange because a University of Tennessee student has made my heart warm.
Andy Rogers, a student at UT has created (I believe he wrote it, directed it and produced it) a play about diabetes and aptly named it, “Andy and the Beats.” I so wish I could go, but I don’t live close enough to make it.
My mom first saw this on the local Knoxville station, WBIR-10, and called to tell me about it. I don’t know Andy or his family, but from what I’ve read, he and his sister have type 1 diabetes. As part of a class project, he came up with the play and it’s showing this weekend at a local Knoxville theater.
The shows are free to everyone, but Andy has said donations are welcome and will benefit the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. (The same office I was first associated with). So anyway, if you’re in the area this weekend, please go and support Andy… even if you can’t support JDRF. It’s a great, low-cost date night, so why not?
Here’s a more in-depth post from DiabetesMine.com about Andy’s show, and here are links to show times at Clarence Brown Lab Theatre.
And I just found the show on Facebook!
