I’m fortunate enough to be able to freelance in addition to my job, and yesterday, I had the pleasure of hanging out at The War Eagle Reader. The story involved a ’74 Auburn grad, Lisa Weldon, who walked every square mile of New York City last year, with hopes of doing the same in New Orleans in March and Paris in September.
When the story was first pitched, I was instantly hooked. Walking around a city is one of my favorite things to do when traveling. It’s the absolute best way to discover, learn and see. Walking on your own with no real destination gives you a perspective most tourists miss, and it’s my favorite part of visiting new places. When I spent a summer in New York several years ago, I discovered the city by walking. Talking with Lisa about her 30 days in New York was wonderfully enlightening. She reminded me why I enjoy traveling and re-energized my free spirit.
When she started talking about doing the same in Paris in September, she had no idea I’m planning a trip to France for my 30th birthday in the same month. She was such a joy to interview, and I’m fairly certain I’ve made a new friend through this assignment. Please go read about her journeys and what’s coming next for her.

Seriously, she’s completely awesome. If you don’t believe me, follow her and see for yourself.
And as always, War Eagle!
