Perspective.

Football is fun — one of my favorite pastimes and current joys. It’s been a whirlwind of a season, and yesterday was amazing! Auburn’s loss was heartbreaking, but after a 3-9 season the year before, I’m grateful my team made it to the big game. War Eagle! Those boys work extremely hard, and they should be VERY proud of themselves.

But today, it’s Tuesday. The game is over and regular life resumes. This particular Tuesday, one of my best friends is having surgery. She’s a type 1 diabetic, a wife and mother and soon-to-be breast cancer survivor. She’s triumphed over chemo, and she’ll begin radiation in the spring. But before then, she’ll undergo a mastectomy followed by a painful recovery.

So today, I’m painfully aware of perspective. I won’t spend the day cheering or cartwheeling. I’ll spend it praying and fasting for my friend. She’s been a champion in my life for nearly two decades — and she’ll be a champion in my life for many more.

Today, I ask you to join me in prayer for my friend and for the millions of others bravely battling cancer around the world. Today is huge in the life of my friend. It scares me to know so many others have faced similar moments and with what seems like increasing frequency. So today, I focus my prayers on her.

Thank you for reading, and thank you for praying.
