It’s now Day 12, and I’m tired. Spending time each day #inthesaddle is fun, but also exhausting. My favorite part (aside from the joy of riding part) is seeing my friends participate. Jeff and Lisa are doing it, and Stephen is riding for half of May. Even my best friend Matt is riding! Old friends and familiar routes have been missed, but this adventure has forced me to get out of my comfort zone and ride. I hope you’re enjoying the entertainment value of the photos at least.

On day six, the weather was bright and the sun was shining but I simply ran out of time. It was my first ride of the month on the trainer, and I remembered why I hate that thing so much. Boring, but necessary, I suppose.

Wednesday, I rode with a group of co-workers. Hooray for new friends. It was quite the eventful ride as we saw a SNAKE on the greenway. Well, actually… I saw a snake on the greenway, and then I subsequently squealed like a little girl, halted my brakes nearly flipping over the handlebars and then refused to go any farther until he finished crossing the pavement. My reaction was the running joke the rest of the ride, and I’ll be shocked if I don’t show up to work one day and find a rubber snake somewhere. 😉 It was entertaining to say the least. I can’t help it though. I solemnly believe the only good snake is a dead snake.

Thursday turned out to be a short, but pleasant ride downtown. My friend Susan is in town from Huntsville while her mother is recovering from surgery. She went to the gym, while I hit the blacktop, then we met for dinner. It was the perfect plan.

Fridays aren’t meant for being indoors. But after a little league game for the cutest 5-year-old boys I’ve ever seen swing a bat, the sun was down and it was too late to ride outside. After an agonizing 10-minute spin, I rewarded myself with wine. That’s how it’s supposed to work, right?

Day 10 has been one of my favorites. I met Louisa last year on the JDRF Ride in Nashville. Along with two others, we crossed the finished line together. It was fun to make another friend. When we started Saturday morning, my blood sugar was 120, and Louisa’s was 121. You can see where we both finished. I don’t think we could do that again if we tried. Some days, diabetes makes you laugh. Saturday was one of those days. Plus, I love getting a good shot of the beautiful Nashville skyline.

Happy Mother’s Day! This is one of my favorite places to stop when I ride. It’s along the greenway, and it’s a magnificent spot. Each day, my mom calls to talk about where I traveled on two wheels. She’s my constant encourager and supporter. Sunday’s ride was in her honor, and I’m so grateful she’s my mom. Happy Mother’s Day (a day late) to all my friends. You are lovely and treasured!
Now I’m going to go take a nap. Well, I’m going to ride first and then take a nap. Stay tuned for more, and here’s a recap of the first five days.
As part of National (and Nashville) Bicycle Month, I made a commitment to spend time #inthesaddle for 31 consecutive days during the month of May. While this isn’t a fundraiser, I am participating in two JDRF Ride to Cure Diabetes rides in the fall. You can support me, and type 1 diabetes research, on my Lake Tahoe and Nashville ride pages.
You are so inspiring! I’m really enjoying reading your riding stories. And the photos are great too. Even though we’re only 12 days in, I know you’re going to power through all 31 days #inthesaddle!
