These words are for you, for my friends and for the strangers who support me. For those who support a cure for type 1 diabetes, and for those who encourage me along the way. This one’s for you.
You allow me the opportunity to travel and ride in some of the country’s most beautiful places. You allow me an opportunity to make new friends and new memories. But more than that, more than the smiles and the miles, you allow me to be an advocate as you support research for type 1 diabetes.
The conversations I have on these trips would amaze you. Amazing moments to share what type 1 diabetes is and what cycling does for the benefit of my health. I get to share about JDRF and about the latest research. I get to encourage others with diabetes and parents of children with diabetes. I get to be a living, breathing advocate for a disease many don’t truly understand and a promoter for JDRF — an organization doing amazing things in research and advocacy.
I get to share with the world how diabetes doesn’t limit me if I work hard and pay attention to my body. I get to live an active lifestyle and show others diabetes isn’t a deterrent, only a motivator. I get to ride my bike, making every mile about someone else living with diabetes.
So this is for you, for your support of JDRF and research. For every person who donated, I am grateful. We all support other causes, so knowing diabetes research matters to you is incredibly special to me. I’m honored to have your support and I’m thankful beyond words for the generosity. For every single friend who gave, I am forever indebted for your support to cure type 1 diabetes.
Maybe you give because you know me and understand the role diabetes has in my life. Or because you’ve ridden with me and have seen the planning that goes into a long ride. Maybe it’s because someone you love has diabetes. Or because you have diabetes, too, and you get understand. Whatever your reason, whatever your story, allow me to share a heartfelt thank you.
Words aren’t adequate to show my gratitude. They fall short of expressing the joy I have in my heart for you. Just know I’m deeply and profoundly appreciative.
