I’d like to introduce you to the newest member of my family. This, is Tiger.
Isn’t she a beauty? I normally wouldn’t blog about a new bicycle because, well, it’s not an unusual thing really. But Tiger is different, so I wanted to share her with the world. I’m so very proud to have her, and I want to brag on my friend Matt as I explain.
For three years, I’ve been riding a 30-year-old Fuji. I’ve put a lot of work into her, and when I say I’ve done it, I really mean Matt. She was purchased used from a friend for $50, and she was worth every penny. I’ve had various parts replaced and changed. She’s been through several pedal and seat changes, and she’s come through each one shining and strong. We’ve logged many miles together, including 70 in Death Valley, Calif., last year. I don’t think I’ll ever get rid of her, and I’d like to think I’ll keep riding her from time to time.
But the Fuji is old and limited in her capabilities. She’s heavy and has a hard time on hills. Her gears are limited, and she struggles some days. I knew it was time to start looking for something new, but I had no idea where to begin. I read about various bikes online, and I asked friends. I talked with Matt, and I still couldn’t decide on what I wanted to do. Then Matt suggested he build me a bike. He could do it in the price range I was looking to spend, and he could customize it for me.
Matt is an Auburn fan like me, and when he first mentioned repainting the frame blue and adding orange accents, I grew more and more excited. The conversation turned to reality, and here she is. Isn’t she beautiful?!
