23 and counting

Dude, there is no easy way to hide my excitement right now. For months, I’ve heard my online friends brag about how they got 17, 20 or 21 days out of their CGM sensors. Well, I started my fourth week on the same sensor Wednesday night (during #DSMA actually). So today, I’m on day 23 and counting.

Tattered and torn, but still there.

I have resisted the urge to tweet this miraculous feat in fear of the whole Fight Club thing. (And if you don’t believe Fight Club is real, ask others.) But this thing is barely hanging on, and I had about 20 minutes of “???” this morning, so I’m thinking it’s close to the end of its life span. I’m completely OK with that considering I made it to week four!

I mean, I get excited when I come home from work and my dog didn’t eat something toxic or when I flip an egg in the frying pan without breaking the yolk*. So, of course, a four-week CGM sensor run put me over-the-top with joy.

No, really. It's barely hanging on.

So BAM, there it is, 23 days and counting! New record!

DISCLAIMER: I wear a Dexcom CGM which has only been tested and approved for wear on the abdomen for up to seven days. On my own accord, I chose to wear it longer (and on my leg) understanding the risks involved. I do not endorse nor recommend wearing your CGM site longer than medically recommended. I did so because I am an idiot and like to live on the edge (*see sentence regarding dogs and eggs.) Your Diabetes May Vary.

  1. Ok… hope it doesn’t jinx you! I’ve lasted that long, but ended up pulling it on day 26 because I was concerned it might not be the best to leave in any longer, even if all appeared to be working. I’ve still heard no official response on whether you “should,” even if you could. You know, past the 7 day FDA-approval, that is.

Oh crap. And that reminds me: I forgot to put Riley in her cage before I left the house this morning. Hope she hasn’t destroyed anything or eaten anything toxic… time to go home.
