Rekindle

If Christmas has a taste, it would be that of a Starbucks chai tea latte. I ordered my first one of the season yesterday, and it tasted as perfectly delicious as I remembered (though I’m still not sure the deliciousness is worth $4). The holidays come in a close second as my favorite time of year. I’ve struggled with finding my Christmas spirit this year, but as I looked down at my chai tea, I saw this photo:

It was the gentle reminder I needed to help put me in the Christmas spirit, or at least get me started. The holidays bring me joy because of friends and family. I have great Christmas memories and each holiday, I get the opportunity to make more. This year, I’m buying less and giving more. My church is participating in Advent Conspiracy again this year, but it’s more than simply participating in a cause. This year, I want to rekindle everything about the season.

I want to rekindle relationships this Christmas. I want to be thoughtful and spend time with people, not just drop a present off and wave as I pass by. I want to be intentional about the way I love my friends and family. I want to serve those in my community and spend less time worrying about myself. I want to rekindle the message of Jesus, of loving intentionally, of sacrificial giving. My calendar is quickly filling up this season, but with each opportunity to celebrate Christmas, I want those around me to know how much I love them, how thankful I am to share this life with them.

Although their version of rekindling means something different, I think the marketing team at Starbucks might be on to something.
