Feelgood Friday

I cheated.

You see, some years ago I decided to get a tattoo. Even though I was in college, I knew I had to get inked somewhere my mother wouldn’t see it. (And yes, she is going to HATE that I wrote this post). Nonetheless, after MUCH consideration and thought, the day arrived. I had picked out what I wanted, consulted my older brother and made my decision.

But before leaving my dorm room, I grabbed my tube of EMLA* cream and slathered an insane amount across my skin where I planned to be inked.

That’s right folks, I cheated!

I admit it.

I didn’t feel a thing.

In fact, it mostly tickled. I pretended it hurt, and I didn’t tell anyone what I had done. But yes, I completely cheated when I got inked.

(And I would most certainly do it again if I ever decided to get another tattoo — which is not in my future plans).

*EMLA cream is a numbing cream. Its intended use is to numb areas of skin prior to pump insertion or syringe injections. I used it as a teenager after first going on the insulin pump. And of course, I also used it during what my mother likes to call “my heathen years”. 😉

  1. Depending on where the tattoo was placed, I might have made the same decision. But all-in-all, I consider my tattoos to be battle scars. You don’t get scarred without some pain.
