Skinny. Jesus. Love.

OK, that headline is definitely going to need some explaining. Last night’s DSMA chat was about New Year’s resolutions for the coming year. I was late in joining the conversation, but I jumped in for question No. 5 which asked us to pick three words regarding the coming year. Mine were Skinny. Jesus. Love.

I have lots of goals, plans, changes, resolutions, whatever you want to call them, for the new year. But in three words, it’s Skinny. Love. Jesus.

Skinny, in all honesty, should probably be the word healthy. I’m not overweight, but I’m not at my comfortable weight either. I’m training for a century, which is the main part of my exercise routine, especially since I can ride indoors. But I need to work on my eating habits big time. I’m Southern in every sense of the word — right down to the fried chicken and sweet tea. My waist line is definitely not going to shrink if I don’t change my eating habits. So as with many other Americans, I’m hoping to get skinny — or at least to a weight where I am comfortable and happy.

Jesus, is fairly self-explanatory. I want to grow closer to Christ in 2012. I want to engulf myself in His word and learn from scripture. In Jeremiah 29:13, He says if I seek Him with all my heart, I’ll find Him. So this year is all about Jesus. Actually, I want every year to be about Jesus.

Love. Without opening a whole can of worms here, we’ll just stick with my goal to love others. 😉 Love is discussed throughout the bible. One of my favorite references is John 13:34: “I command you to love one another. Just as I have loved you, love one another.” God is love. Again in 1 John 4:7, the bible tells us to “love one another because love is from God, and everyone who loves is from God and knows God.” It’s human nature to judge, but this year, I want to love all — no questions asked. If you’ve ever been to a wedding, you’ve heard 1 Corinthians 13. Love is kind. It isn’t envious, judgmental or prideful. So there it is, 2012 will be a year of love.

Along with several other things I hope to accomplish in 2012, I’m sticking to these main three: Skinny. Jesus. Love. Hmmm, sounds like a new hashtag to me.

  1. Love it and I know you will accomplish everything you set your mind to this year. And if you start to fall off the wagon, don’t worry your left arm will smack you on the head and get you back on track!!

Hugs to you my dear friend!
