Monday was my first appointment with my new endocrinologist in Nashville. I have lots of friends in Nashville, many of them diabetic. Before my appointment, I started thinking about who in the DOC lives in or near Nashville. Cara and Meredith came to mind almost immediately. Unfortunately, Meredith couldn’t make it, but Cara was able to come down on the same day as my appointment.
What an amazing woman Cara is! We met at a coffee shop in east Nashville, and we fell into pace immediately. We sat and talked for a couple of hours as if we’d been friends for years. We laughed about our travels meeting other DOCers and about Simon and the whole Simonpalooza festival that will surely be talked about for years to come. We talked about Broadway (because if you know Cara at all, you know it’s impossible to spend time with her and not talk about Broadway.) 😉 We talked about God, about friends and about her new house. Come to think of it, I don’t think there’s much we didn’t talk about. I guess that’s to be expected when you put two talkers in a coffee shop together.
Since Cara had planned to be in Nashville most of the day, she waited on me as I went to my midday appointment. After, we went to the recently-reopened Opry Mills. We talked about the flood and about affected friends. We talked about what the mall used to look like compared to what it looked like now. (Almost the exact same.) We tried on shoes and found matching purses. We meandered past Gigi’s Cupcakes which required a second visit. She helped me pick out a new pair of hiking boots and we laughed about being “Southern” girls.
To put it mildly, it was one of the best days I can remember having. We laughed and joked, and it certainly didn’t feel like it was our first time meeting. I can’t wait to spend time with Cara in the future. She’s a gem! She’s a peach! She’s fantastical! I truly am blessed to be part of this amazing, supportive and incredible community. If you haven’t had the opportunity for a D-meetup in real life, I highly recommend it. Sure, your friends might think you’re crazy when you talk about meeting strangers from the Internet. But trust me, it’s worth it. I promise. 😉
I’ve forgiven you for being an Auburn fan. 😉 And I’m writing on my own post. I had a fantastic time meeting you a well. Instant friends!
