#fail

This past weekend was a struggle as far as the dietary changes are concerned. In short, it was an epic #fail. But I’m not harping on it, I’m just going to begin tomorrow as a fresh day and a fresh start.

Friday night, my local JDRF hosted a kickoff party for this Year’s Walk to Cure Diabetes. It was an absolute blast! The theme is “Wrangle up diabetes” so the kickoff was at a farm complete with a bonfire of hotdogs and s’mores. I brought my own dinner and did great. Until the s’mores. In my defense, I was craving some serious comfort food. The ladies reading this will understand what I’m talking about. I knew I’d pay for it later, but it was too much to resist. I’d resisted temptation all week, but I gave in on Friday.

Saturday morning, I woke up low and before I knew what happened, I’d devoured a hotdog, bun and all, along with half a tube of glucose tablets. (I had the leftover hotdogs in my fridge to take to the downtown mission.) I watched a friend’s daughter that afternoon, and I won’t talk about the giant scoop of ice cream I had at Maggie Moo’s. I was hanging out with an 8-year-old all day. What’s a girl to do? 😉

Wrangle up diabetes!

Sunday was much better, and Sunday night, I visited Publix and stocked up on meats, fruits and veggies. On the agenda for Monday… basil chicken burgers with grilled shrimp and roasted Brussels sprouts. So begins another week.

My hands are feeling better despite the relapse over the weekend. My right thumb isn’t 100 percent, but each day, I’m able to put more pressure on it. I felt yucky all weekend, mostly bloated and weighted down. Because of that, I’m really excited about this week. I’m addicted to the way the new eating habits changed how I feel, which made cheating so not worth it.

Monday will begin a fresh week starting with a gigantic cup of coffee.

  1. Victoria – I think you are being pretty hard on yourself! From the posts you have written lately, you have 1) determined a course of action when medical doctors could not; 2) implemented an entirely new way of eating; 3) managed to control the ups and downs of blood glucose levels while doing so; and 4) became more adventurous in the world of food by trying new things! I think you’re doing #SuperAwesome. =)
