So now’s the time where I need some serious suggestions from you guys! This trip coming up on Friday? Yeah, it involves a couple of 12 hour flights and a couple of seven hour flights. That’s a lot of sittin’ folks. And I’m not a plane sleeper so that equates to lots of reading. And that’s where YOU come in! I have a couple of real books I’m taking in my carry on, and I’ve been loading up my Kindle for a while now….
So far, I’m taking “Lineage of Grace“, “Crazy Love” and “Radical” with me. I’ve read the first two, but they warrant re-reads on a regular basis. “Lineage of Grace” is a first one for me, so I’m excited to read it. (And because I just finished “Redeeming Love” by the same author and LOVED it. By the way, go read that. Now.)Ā
I also recently bought Annie Downs‘ new book “Perfectly Unique” and I can’t wait to read it, too. I’m thinking about buying it for my eighth grade small group. I loved Annie’sĀ first book and its message for teens. This one is supposed to be bigger and better! I also have “Love Does” by Bob Goff which I still haven’t finished (according to Kindle, I’m 67 percent of the way there though). And my small group had to read “Full Tilt” for summer reading, so I have that one, too. (Although it looks a little dark and scary so I’m not so sure about this one. I like happy books.) I also have a few others on my iPad ready to go, but I really want suggestions from you because you, my dear friends, always provide the best suggestions for books.
What is a necessity for me to read?
What was something you recently read and couldn’t put down?
What do you think I’d like to read?
(Keep in mind, I’m a whimsical romantic who dreams a lot, and I hate sci-fi books. Getting through the “Lord of the Rings” trilogy nearly killed me, and I have zero desire to read “Harry Potter.” Other than that, anything is game. Also, please don’t stop loving me because I hate “Lord of the Rings” and “Harry Potter.” Oh, and I’ve already read every book written by Nicholas Sparks.)
And while I do read a lot of faith-based books, all suggestions are welcome. I can’t wait to see your suggestions!Ā
Absolute #1 choice: Wild by Cheryl Strayed.
For a howling laugh: Let’s Pretend this Never Happened by Jenny Lawson
Great, great choice as well: “Don’t Kill the Birthday Girl” by Sandra Beasley
Reread a classic: Either “To Kill a Mockingbird” or “The Awakening”
I’d recommend The Far Pavilions, by M.M Kaye. I’ve read it twice, and enjoyed it each time. While it’s fiction (I think), it’s got some history and a love not too sappy love story. And no sci-fi š
I’ll second “Let’s Forget This Ever Happenned” by Jenny Lawson. Also, check out “Thirteen Reasons Why” by Jay Asher. Oh holy heck did I devour that book. Less than a day to read and that included working about 12 hours. http://www.amazon.com/Thirteen-Reasons-Why-ebook/dp/B0054R6BFM/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1347378603&sr=8-2&keywords=thirteen+reasons+why
One of my favorites (other than the Outlander series by Diana Gabaldon) is “A Prayer for Owen Meany” by John Irving. I’m not typically a re-reader, but this one I have.
Two other friends recommended the Mark of the Lion series by Francine Rivers and “Who is this man” by John Ortberg. Anyone read those?
I am not the only person who doesn’t care to read Harry Potter?! Oh my stars! I thought I was the only one š
My absolute go-to book is “The Time Traveler’s Wife” by Audrey Niffenegger. I have lost track of how many times I have read this book. I own it in paperback & ebook. It NEVER leaves my Kindle Fire. š I think it is technically considered sci-fi, but I’d say it was more of a story about how intertwined two lives truly can be. http://www.amazon.com/Time-Travelers-Wife-Audrey-Niffenegger/dp/015602943X/ref=la_B001JS2IL6_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1347412960&sr=1-1
I LOVE Carlos Ruiz Zafon! Start with “Shadow Of The Wind” – http://www.carlosruizzafon.co.uk/shadowofthewind.html
Someone mentioned Jay Asher. He wrote a book with Carolyn Mackler called “The Future Of Us” – LOVED it! http://www.amazon.com/The-Future-Us-Jay-Asher/dp/1595144919/ref=la_B001JP9NLW_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1347412829&sr=1-2
It’s a teen book, but I also liked “Rob&Sara.com” by P.J. Petersen & Ivy Ruckman – http://www.amazon.com/Rob-Sara-com-P-J-Petersen/dp/0385731647/ref=la_B001HD38YE_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1347413052&sr=1-4
If you read any of those, I’d love to know what you think. š
