Buttons, part trois

This blog is a part three out of three. To read the first post, click here. To read the second post, click here.

(in)courage
(in)courage I’ve been reading (in)courage forever it seems, and there’s a good reason why. I am encouraged because of this site. (Would’ve never guessed that would happen based on the site’s name.) The writers are Christian women sharing their journey through various topics and subjects. If you’re a woman (sorry guys), I promise you’ll find wonderful encouragement and hope through the women who write for (in)courage. Trust me. Follow (in)courage on Twitter @incourage.

Life for a Child
Life for a Child This button is so near and dear to my heart. What this organization does is nothing short of amazing. I recently wrote about my hopes for a similar mission down the road. Life for a Child provides life-saving insulin and supplies to people in developing countries. Did you know that in some parts of the world, diabetes is a death sentence? It is, simply because people don’t have access to insulin. The next time you open your butter compartment and take out a bottle of insulin, remember this organization and consider supporting its mission. Follow the parent organization on Twitter @IntDiabetesFed.

Crazy Love by Francis Chan
Crazy Love – Francis Chan Oh where do I begin? This book literally took my life, flipped it upside down, shook it out and then set it back into motion. I am a changed person after reading this book, for real. Francis uses the ultimate authority (God’s word) to explain how we are called to have a “Crazy Love” with Christ. Living by faith, trusting Him for every need, reliance on God alone. It’s amazing. I was so enthralled with this book, I read it twice. I bought the Kindle version and highlighted so many verses and passages that I went to the bookstore and bought a hard copy to mark up all the margins. Go read it. Now. But be prepared to live your life in a completely different way. It will uproot you in the most unexpected and glorious ways.

Radical – David Platt I’m not completely finished with this book, but within the first chapter, I added the button to my page. I don’t even know how to describe this book. It would probably mirror what I said about “Crazy Love” in terms of how it uprooted me. I read “Crazy Love” first, so I was already uprooted by the time I read this book. “WOW” is a great word to use here. David is a pastor in Birmingham and if you think you live a comfortable life, he’ll quickly tell you why that’s a bad idea. Go. Leave. Serve. That’s his message, and like “Crazy Love,” it’s straight from God’s word. As Christians, it’s simple: “whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.” -Matthew 25:40. So go live a radical life for Christ. In addition to this book (which you should totally read), there’s “Secret Church” which is not a book, but a thing. If you’ll click the button, you can read all about Secret Church, too. It. Is. Amazing. Follow David on Twitter @plattdavid.

Victoria Cumbow
Best of the ‘Betes Blogs Started by two of my very favorite online personalities Sara and George, BBB is such a great resource to have in your back pocket. Each month, nominations are made for the best diabetes blogs and a winner in several categories is chosen. A different blogger hosts the nominees each month and selects the winners. It’s a great way to find new blogs and read powerful thoughts from someone you might not read otherwise. Fortunately, there are far too many blogs in this wonderful community to read them all, so this is an incredibly valuable resource to have. I’ve already started my list for June nominees. Follow Best of the ‘Betes Blogs on Twitter @bestbetesblogs.

Thanks for allowing me to share a little more information about my buttons. Keep an eye on the bottom of my site because sometimes, I add new buttons. And sometimes, I switch out old ones. In other words, I’m giving you permission to push my buttons. 😉

  1. Victoria, I just finished reading this series (all three at once!). Thanks for sharing. I must admit to passing over these on a regular basis, but I’m not likely to do so now. Hmmm… which one do I pick first?
